Releases/Grand Teton Log Homes
Victor, Idaho 05/01/07 - A new boom favoring log home building has been fueled since 2001 and Grand Teton Log Homes in Victor, ID is helping drive innovation within the industry through their custom design center approach.
According to a recent consumer study, log homes are one of the fastest growing segments of the building industry. Log home sales have more than doubled since 1995, with the $1.4 billion industry now capturing more than seven percent of the custom home market nationwide, according to a study by the Log Home Living Institute in Chantilly, Virginia.
There are an estimated 500,000 modern log homes in the United States and Canada, and more than 90% are used as primary residences. In fact, more families live in a modern log home today then any time in history.
"We've seen a tremendous growth over the years in log homes construction", says Rod Carson once owner of Jackson Hole Log Homes and now with the newly formed Grand Teton Log Homes, located in the same location in Victor, ID.
"I've guarded my reputation by doing the best quality work I can," says Carson, who has been building log homes for over 30 years. "Without a good reputation, you're not going to have a business in this Valley." And when the client is paying upwards of 3 million dollars for their home, "you need trusted professionals."
Carson did just that by selling his log home business to a trusted group of investors who desired to bring design and innovation to the log home industry. "We understand that our customers want to design their home, their way, and we have built our service offerings around this premise, focusing on individual customization through our design center vs. the old "log home kit" way of purchasing says Don Gervais.
"Today's modern log home may incorporate many different architectural styles and can follow almost any floor plan. A log home design today is typically over 2,000 square feet of living space with two or more bathrooms and options and upgrades are common such as; gourmet kitchens, balconies, whirlpool tubs and walls of windows."
"The demand for log homes is not about to decrease. With retirement, many Boomers will decide now is the time to fulfill their dream. The log home construction boom will continue to grow, not only because baby boomers have the desire for log homes, but because they also have the money to build them" says Gervais.
BEFORE YOU BUY
Rod Carson and Don Gervais offer these five tips:
1. Do you homework. Read magazines, attend shows and learn about
the process of building a log home.
2. Figure out how much you're willing to spend. It's smart to
let log home companies know your budget. This will enable them
to give you a solid idea of the style and size of home you can
afford to build.
3. Decide if you want a handcrafted home or a milled home.
Handcrafted logs are peeled by hand (these homes cost about 10
to 15 percent more than milled); milled homes are precisely cut
as part of a log-home "system".
4. Let the size and location of your land dictate the style of
the home you design.
5. Experience matters - there are many log home manufactures in
the U.S. approximately 640 log home companies in 2003. Many are
small "mom & pop" operations. When looking to purchase, make
sure the log home company you're dealing with has the expertise
and experience to create the home of your dreams.
