Log Home spam

How does one know that one’s blog is a success?

If you have a blog, how do you measure success?  Sure, you can check your server logs, Google Analytics or your FeedBurner stats, but IMHO, the true measure of success is when the spammers think you are worthy.  This morning I had 126 spam comments (just since yesterday).  I must be doing something right.

For those of you who don’t have a blog and are not familiar with spam filtering, WordPress has a feature called Akismet, which checks incoming comments against the Akismet web service to see if they look like spam or not.  Legitimate comments are filtered and the garbage is trashed.  One click and all the spam is gone.  Thank you, Akismet!

A new Presidential Platform Plank?

I would suggest to Senators McCain and Obama that they add a “war on spam” to their l-o-n-g list of Presidential promises. Imagine the new people they could attract to their parties… Internet users who have no political leanings might support any candidate that declared a “war on spam”.  Like the “Do Not Call List”, they would most certainly exempt themselves as spammers, and we could go about our business only receiving spam from Presidential wannabes (and every charity on the planet).

One nice thing about having your own blog is being able to vent about anything you choose to make the subject of the day.  Okay, I apologize… I know that spam has nothing to do with log homes, and I promise I’ll be back on topic with my next post. I guess that’s what happens when you read the Drudge Report and then check your spam queue.
