Log Home Irish Blessing

May your neighbors respect you,
Troubles neglect you,
Angels protect you,
Heaven accept you
And may your log home always be too small to hold all your friends.

Did you know that St Patrick’s day was started by the Irish as a feast day of Saint, Maewyn Succat.  You didn’t know that?  Oh yeah, Maewyn had an interesting life that included being kidnapped by Irish marauders as a young boy, working as a slave to a Druid chieftain in Ireland and becoming a priest and eventually the patron Saint of Ireland.

The Pope gave Maewyn the name “Patritius” or Patrick, which was derived from two Latin words meaning the father of his people. Almost everything else we attribute to St. Patrick and his feast day has been embellished upon over time.

I think we may have adopted St Patrick’s day as an excuse to forget about our troubles for a day and celebrate what is good. Throw in a few humorous Irish blessings and traditions and you have a reason for a party.

God invented whiskey to keep the Irish from ruling the world.

May you die in bed at 95 years,
Shot by a jealous wife!

May your bank account always
be bigger than your troubles.

A toast to your coffin.
May it be made of 100 year-old oak,
And may we plant the tree together, tomorrow.

May you be in Heaven a half hour before the Devil knows you’re dead!
