Hurricanes bring destruction – and opportunity!

We don’t have to live in an area of the country that is susceptible to hurricanes (or tornadoes) to appreciate their devastating effects.  Nevertheless, it is easy to forget that when these storms strike, the ramifications of such events are felt far beyond the damage that occurs to people and property.

One such example of this is the Louisiana Log Home and Country Living Expo, which was scheduled for last September, had to be cancelled and rescheduled as a result of the hurricanes that struck the Gulf Coast and disrupted everything.  That show, the 3rd Annual Louisiana Log Home and Country Living Expo will now be held May 16-17 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The show producer, G L Management, reports the event will remain as a spring expo in future years. Held in the new River Center in downtown Baton Rouge, the event has attracted log home and timber frame builders from throughout the United States and Canada.

The ‘opportunity’ I made reference to in the title of this post is that many residents of that area are now considering a stronger log homes and timber frame construction as they rebuild from the damage done by the storms.  Obviously, no one with a conscience overtly seeks financial gain from such natural disasters, but once people become aware of the durability of log construction and are faced with rebuilding in a hurricane prone area… a legitimate opportunity for log home companies materializes.

If you are a log home manufacturer or builder, this may be a show you will want to attend.  For more information visit the show’s web site, or call 888/451-0270.
