Log Home Money Matters
How will you pay for a log home?
The financing piece of the log home building experience confuses and intimidates a lot of buyers, but it doesn't need to be that way. The best thing you can do is to educate yourself on the different financing options available and what best fits your particular needs. There is a process involved in building any type of new home with regards to obtaining your mortgage loan and construction loan. Typically, you will need to finance your land, the construction of the home (including materials and log kit) and then wrap everything together into one conventional mortgage home loan. Not all lenders are willing or are capable of doing this (i.e. financing unimproved property), so it is important to find a lender who has experience with such deals.
If you are in a rural area, local banks that cater to rural customers are often more flexible and have more programs available to finance "unimproved" land (land with no home or buildings). All of the lenders mentioned below work with log home projects. Compare.
A "construction loan" is used to construct a building or finance other improvements of real property, with the land and improvements pledged as collateral for the loan. Rolling the construction loan and the property loan together produces the conventional mortgage we are most familiar with.
