2012 Year of the Dragon

Log home New Year Resolution

Happy New Year!

According to the Chinese calendar, 2012 is the “Year of the Dragon“. To me, that sounds a whole lot more promising than the year of the rat or snake, so how should we greet this new year? The dragon is supposed to be the mightiest of the Zodiac signs symbolizing character traits like dominance and ambition. Hey, we’re all ambitious, so will this be the year that we dominate our market?

If recent history has taught us anything it is that relying on others to solve our problems or make the world better is a recipe for disaster. One need look no further than what has been unfolding on Wall Street and in Washington DC to know that ‘others’ don’t care one tiny bit about you and me. Oh sure, they can make things easier or harder with the games they play, but when all those external influences are taken away, the success of our businesses (and our lives) is ultimately determined by ourselves.

Build your log home or wait?

If building a log home has been your dream, but the events of these past few years have sidetracked your plans, maybe it’s time to reevaluate. The crooks in DC have had years to ‘fix’ this problem that they created and their success record is abhorring. Things may improve in 2012 or they may get worse, but does that mean you need to further postpone your happiness?

If you can afford it today and you’re not dependent on selling a property in a devalued market before you can act, go for it. There has literally never been a better time to build a log home than today. Manufacturers are hungry and willing to accept offers they would have laughed at a few years ago. Builders want new projects and have sharpened their pencils and some materials cost less today than they have in many years.

Expand your business or hunker down?

Like many of you, I’ve been using extra caution in my business, watching expenses and taking a ‘wait and see’ approach – hoping that something would happen to get the economy back on track. Well, I tossed those ideas out the back door a couple months ago and decided this was the time to expand my business – to do those things I had been planning to do, but was holding off.

2012 will be an exciting time for this business!

In January we will roll-out a completely new directory, a new look & feel, more content and user resources, some new features and even some new advertisers. Our blog, which was the very first log home blog, and has over 300+ posts will also be redesigned and offer more features for our visitors.  Look for more news about these new additions here.

Let’s make it a great New Year!

Join me in embracing optimism over hopelessness and cynicism. Forget what you’ve heard about 2012 being the “end of the world”. I personally don’t think the Mayans had inside knowledge on predicting the end of the world here in 2012. If you think about it, if they were that all-knowing, they should have been able to see the collapse and extinction of their own civilization rather than dumping that on us. Additionally, I even believe that the clowns in DC will soon realize that people have had enough of their self-serving antics.

My predictions may be as wrong as the Mayans, but I have chosen to take the steps to determine my own destiny and not let the Mayans, politicians or greedy Wall Street bankers make my decisions for me.

Happy New Year Friends!

PS:

This postscript is being added today on Jan. 02, 2012… as you may have noticed, this blog morphed overnight to this new look & feel. It isn’t complete yet, but we’re pedaling as fast as we can to make all the changes. Our new facelift for the main directory will be rolled out in the next two weeks. I’m think that you will like what we’re planning. Once again, from my family to yours…have a very Happy & Prosperous New Year!
